Located in Pyrgos Kallistis, within a historic canava (old winery) built in 1895, the Santorini Traditional Museum was created by Giannis Drosos-Chrysos, a Santorini native passionate about preserving the island’s heritage. His vision was to establish a space where visitors could explore a museum-like collection of artifacts and photographs, offering a glimpse into traditional island life and the economic activities of the past.
The journey through the museum follows the evolution of local trades and craftsmanship, starting with wine-making, followed by tomato and fava processing, a recreated mansion and farmhouse, and exhibits dedicated to traditional professions, including the limnaris (stonecutter), pocharis (potter), musicians, barrel-maker, and tinker. The tour concludes with a visit to the original family canava, providing an authentic look at Santorini’s cultural history.
