Established in 1990 at a central location in Santorini’s capital, Fira, the MATI art gallery serves as an entry point into the imaginative universe of artist Yorgos Kypris. Offering an amazing view of the caldera, the location reminded the artist of an observatory, prompting him to name the gallery “MATI” (the Greek word for “eye”). Rooted in observation, the space underscores a deep connection to the island’s essence, presenting an unparalleled range of unique artworks, from sculptures and installations to prints and designer jewelry.

Expanding its cultural footprint, MATI Mesaria was established in 2024 as a contemporary art space housed within a historic 1900 winery. Following archaeological regulations and honoring the building’s rich heritage, this new destination introduces a fresh cultural profile to the island, offering a serene experience away from the big crowds. MATI Mesaria features a permanent exhibition celebrating the legacy of Yorgos Kypris, alongside group exhibitions, art tours, and artist residencies for local and international artists.
