Established in 2006 by the Cultural Society of Thera, the Museum of Minerals & Fossils is located in Perissa, near the church of Timios Stavros (Holy Cross). The collection spans 1.5 billion to 50,000 years ago, showcasing minerals and fossils from Santorini, Greece, and beyond.
Among its highlights is a priceless mineral collection from Lavrio, Attiki, and a remarkable selection of fossils, covering all major organism groups. Particularly significant are the fossilized olive, mastic, and palm trees from the Santorini Caldera, dating back 50,000–60,000 years. This rare paleoflora, unique in the Mediterranean, offers valuable insights into Europe’s ancient plant evolution.
