Built in 1888 in Messaria, Argyros Mansion is one of Santorini’s most remarkable neoclassical landmarks. Constructed by skilled local craftsmen, who had contributed to the grand mansions of Athens, the mansion reflects both local Cycladic architecture and eclectic influences of the era.
Originally owned by George Emm. Argyros, a landowner and wine merchant, the mansion was severely damaged in the 1956 earthquake but was later fully restored with support from the Greek Ministry of Culture. The first floor, featuring original furniture, exquisite ceiling art, and preserved utensils, is open to visitors, while the ground floor now operates as a luxury guesthouse.
Recognized as a “work of art” in 1985, the mansion received the Europa Nostra Award in 1997 for its contribution to Greek cultural heritage.
