Casting its radiant glow upon Santorini’s shores, the Olympic Flame ignited on April 19, 2024, before embarking on its symbolic voyage to Paris, the host city of the 33rd modern Olympic Games.
The Olympic Flame arrived on our island via a military aircraft and proceeded to the central square of Firostefani, where the starting point of the torch relay had been designated.
Hundreds of students, residents, and visitors of the island gathered along the caldera to witness the journey of the Olympic Flame. Sequentially, it was carried amidst applause and cheers towards the Holy Cathedral of Thira.
We hope that the message of the Olympic Games and the values of Olympism – noble competition, peace, equality, solidarity, hope, and respect among nations – resonate across the globe.
